Dubai Metro trial run on May 15
Dubai metro trial run will start on May 15. RTA is working to conduct the technical trial run of Dubai Metro on the test track at Jebel Ali, in a sector extending 11km from Ibn Battuta Station to JAFZA Station. The train can run at a maximum speed of 90km/h on the test track. The train will undergo full tests to monitor noise, wobbling and electromechanical compatibility for early detection of defects so as to address them before passenger service is provided.
The first batch of Dubai Metro carriages, consisting of 10 cars, arrived in Dubai recently from Japan and five cars have already been transported to Jebel Ali Metro Station, said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)
The trial runs in Japan lasted for several months before the cars were shipped to Dubai. Two tests in phases will also be conducted before the train is actually put to use. The first stage, which is called 'static test' phase, involves placing a stationary train vehicle on a track and performing system tests covering communication systems, signalling systems, power supplies, air-conditioning, on-board electronics and lighting. On passing the first phase, there will be a second phase known as the 'dynamic test' to run the train on the track without passengers on board.
"Arrival of the first batch of trains in Dubai marked another important milestone for the Dubai Metro Project," said Al Tayer.
