The Lagoons’ realty project in Dubai to ensure efficient use of energy resources
Sama Dubai, the international real estate investment and development arm of Dubai Holding, has signed an agreement with Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) to provide district cooling services to ‘The Lagoon', 70 million sq ft freehold waterfront real estate development. Under the 25-year agreement, Empower will install 8 district cooling stations at the development with a capacity of approximately 300,000 Refrigerated Tonnes (RT).
Farhan Faraidooni, Executive Chairman, Sama Dubai, said, "The agreement is an important step to ensure the efficient use of energy resources at ‘The Lagoons'. By implementing a district cooling system, ‘The Lagoons' will eliminate the use of ozone-depleting refrigerants, increase building efficiency and reduce demand on local power utilities by up to 30%".
‘The Lagoons' is being developed by Sama Dubai in an area adjacent to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. Protection of the environment is a key component of the real estate development that will have a large number of parks and green belts, and feature reduced density housing and building heights in the ecologically sensitive buffer zone.
