Dubai Metro to open 5 more stations

DUBAI - Five more Dubai metro stations will be operational on the Red Line by mid October, bringing the total number of stations to 26, UAE newspapers reported on Wednesday.

"We are preparing to open at least five new stations on the Red Line while the three remaining stations will be opened later," Gulf News quoted Adnan Al Hammadi, chief executive officer of the rail agency at Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), as saying.

The Business Bay, First Gulf Bank, Sharaf DG, Jumeirah Lake Towers and Nakheel stations will open in mid-October, according to the National.

The first phase of the 29-station Red Line was launched in September last year with 10 stations, but work on other stations has faced months of delays.

The transport agency has blamed low passenger volumes and delays in the development of communities near the rail line for the late opening of some stations.

The Metro's Green Line, which will intersect with the Red Line, will begin operations in August next year, the National reported citing the RTA.
